The Division of Medical Services combines four activities supporting quality work of clinical departments by offering its services.
It performs diagnostic imaging of organs and organ systems using conventional X-ray, ultrasound imaging, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as well as other procedures of interventional radiology (thin and thick needle biopsy, drainage, some procedures of vascular interventional radiology).
It performs diagnostics, outpatient activities – thyroid outpatient clinic, laboratory activities – hormone laboratory and radiopharmacy.
PATHOLOGY AND CITOLOGY
This is diagnostic service and deals with all conditions treated in Izola General Hospital. Samples subject to rare and special tests, such as determining hormone receptors and HER2 in breast cancer, KRAS in colorectal cancer and rare immunohistochemical staining, are sent to the Medical Faculty and Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana while samples for EGRF testing in case of adenocarcinoma of the lung are sent to Golnik.
LABORATORY OF CLINICAL CHEMISTRY AND HAEMATOLOGY
The basic activity is the performance of numerous examinations in the field of general biochemistry, immunochemistry, haematology, coagulation, and allergology in various biological samples – blood, serum, plasma, urine, faeces, cerebrospinal fluid, puncture specimen and other excreta, which define the term of »laboratory medicine«.
The laboratory performs its activities to support the needs of the hospital and specialist outpatient clinics, and to a lesser extent also external contractors and self-paying patients.
